Tackle the pretty pebble crochet stitch in no time with an easy video tutorial & written pattern

If you like your crochet to have plenty of texture, then you'll love the nubbly pebble stitch. Like pebbles on the beach, your rows of crochet will have individuality and character - and you won't have to spend hours to get a great effect.
This is a perfect stitch for chunkier items like bags, potholders, and placemats as it is hardwearing yet with an added interest to its undulating surface.

Pebble stitch written instructions:
Pebble stitch is a very easy and rewardingly fast stitch to work. Basically, you alternate double and single crochet.
To start, first chain a foundation chain with an even number of stitches, in a size appropriate to your project.
Row one
Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next st, *dc in next ch, sc in next ch; rep from * across. (23 sts)
Row two
Turn, ch 3 (counts as dc), *sc in next st, dc in next st; rep from * across.
Row three
Turn, ch 1, sc in same st, *dc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * across.
Continue for as long as your project requires.
As you'll see, the stitch rapidly builds up a pleasingly textured fabric which is just the thing for men's scarves and hats. In a chunky yarn, it makes excellent pot holders and heavy duty items, but in a finer weight yarn, it can produce a more delicate effect which will produce a nice throw.

Pro tip: This stitch looks really impressive worked in chunky stripes for a scarf. Change your yarn color every ten or so rows for a really great effect.
